iCouch Web & iOS App

I joined iCouch with the mission to design an incredibly powerful product that provides therapists with everything they need to enhance therapy within their practice and as a profession. I was responsible for UI/UX design of the web and iOS apps, creating illustrations and icons, and coding HTML/CSS.

The Problem

The initial version of iCouch was designed solely for therapists to create their profiles, allowing clients to reach out and schedule video calls. However, it faced significant issues, including a poor user experience, limited features, and an outdated design.

My task was to design a platform that would make it easy for clients to find therapists and facilitate seamless collaboration between them. This would go beyond just improving scheduling and video session experiences, but also by providing additional features that would allow therapists to manage their businesses entirely within the iCouch app.

Our Approach

We collected feedback from our existing clients and conducted research on the competition. This information helped us define requirements, user stories, and flows, which simplified the interface design process. To speed up the process and eliminate bias regarding details, we utilized low fidelity wireframes. This approach also enabled us to concentrate on technical details and establish the direction for our subsequent steps.

iCouch flow

In the interface design phase, I worked closely with engineers to ensure a comprehensive understanding of all requirements and flows. This collaboration was essential to prevent missing any critical details. We went through multiple iterations of certain features, especially during the beta testing phase, to refine and improve them together.

Outcome

The Calendar

The calendar was the most crucial feature of the entire app. The primary challenge was to create an experience that allowed therapists to easily set their availability and appointment display rules. According to these settings, their public calendar should show appointment slots for various types of appointments, providing clients with as much flexibility as possible when searching for the ideal appointment time.

The Ways of Communication

We simplified communication between therapists and their clients. Therapists can easily generate a video call link, allowing clients to join with just one click. iCouch video also supports group sessions from the start.

Text chat enables therapists to communicate with clients in real-time, similar to a chat room, or asynchronously, like email. Additionally, video sessions can be initiated directly from within Messaging.

Managing Clients, Documents, Payments...

We created iCouch as an all-in-one solution, enabling therapists to manage their entire business without the need for any other app or service.

The Client Portal simplifies client interactions by allowing them to fill out forms, view shared files, schedule appointments, and make payments. Through multiple iterations, we successfully integrated these features, creating a seamless flow from client connection to case management.

Therapists can also manage their website and write blog posts using iCouch.

Results

The redesign of iCouch transformed it from a simple calendar application into a comprehensive platform that empowered therapists to manage their entire practice with ease. By focusing on user needs, refining key features like scheduling and communication, and adding numerous other features, we created an intuitive and seamless experience for both therapists and clients. As a result, iCouch saw significant growth, with therapist sign-ups increasing by more than 100% and client engagement rising by 3x within the first year of the redesign. This success ultimately contributed to iCouch’s acquisition, marking a rewarding conclusion to our efforts in building a powerful and user-centric platform for modern therapy professionals.
